Mr. George W. Smith, III

Mr. Smith recently joined the International Committee of Exchange on Sports, Culture and Education as their Chief Executive Officer located in Beijing, China. He along with the NGO will represent Throwing Zone Athletics in the area of marketing, sales and manufacturing in China. In addition, their will be a direct focus on Special Olympics, Paralympics and schools.
Mr. Smith is an expert in Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education. He worked in a variety of leadership positions with Special Olympics International for 25 years, including as Director of Coaching Education and for many years as Vice President of Sports and Training. He served as Managing Director for Special Olympics East Asia from 2002 and oversaw the largest athlete growth campaign in the history of Special Olympics.
Prior to Special Olympics Mr. Smith was a teacher and coach at the high school and college levels.
Mr. Smith is the recipient of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education Recreation and Dance, R. Tait McKenzie Award. This is awarded for the most outstanding contributions to the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance field outside of teaching.
In addition he received the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education Recreation and Dance, Presidential Citation, awarded for significant international contributions to the HPER field.
Mr. Smith was also elected to the North American Society of Heath, Physical Education, Sport and Dance. NAS-HPE is the elite honor society of professionals from the United States and Canada.
